I don’t usually post two days in a row – but this is important.
I push people a lot to escape the tyranny of “the man” by starting a businesses.
Problem is, “the man” is us – right? Whether it’s our 9-5 job or skipping lunch and that extra weekend we need to work to make up for an unproductive week or no holiday bonus (I have a feeling that a “holiday bonus” is kindof like bigfoot or the chupacabra; there’s a word for the concept in our language, but it probably doesn’t exist).
Almost every little bit of misery that exists in our own lives is attributable to some choice we’ve made. And nothing makes you the plumber of your own destiny like owning your own business.
Better still, with just a little pre-emptive thought, we can not only change our own lot in life – but also make things so much better for people we don’t even know. All it takes is a choice.
Let me tell you about my friend Erin Giles. Erin is a Business Philanthropy Coach who invited me to participate in something really important. So I wrote an essay, which is now side by side in a book with essays from other amazing folks like Seth Godin, Danielle La Porte, Jonathan Fields and Ash Ambirge.
The book? End Sex Trafficking – a collection of 60 essays on love, knowledge, and freedom by experts in their respective fields. Every dollar of the procedes goes to the Not For Sale Campaign: an organization fighting to abolish slavery every single day.
All I had to do was write an essay. You’d better believe I’m honored to be a part of it. Now, all you have to do is check out the video below, or – if my involvement (or, you know, Seth Freakin Godin’s) is enough for you – you can buy the book here. My essay is in the Knowledge section 🙂
None of the essay contributors – not me, not Seth Godin, not even the publisher or the editor is taking any money from sales. It all goes to help abolish slavery.
It’s not just a book, it is a chance to change the world. It’s a chance to help someone else become the plumber of their own destiny:
In 2012, more than 27 million people are still enslaved around the world.
So, if you’re like me and you understand that when you’re asked to do something really important, you don’t think twice about it: BUY THE BOOK HERE.
